Birds of Hammock Park

Compiled by Harold W. Sims, Jr., past instructor of Ecology at St. Petersburg College; past president of the St. Petersburg Audubon Society, Inc.

September 1981

Listed below are some of the birds that one might see as you walk along the nature trails in Dunedin's Hammock. Many of these species are found in the dense woods and are not easily seen. Some will be found along the tidal creek and drainage canals, others in the open areas. As many of the species are transient visitors, they may not always be found in The Hammock. For this reason, the bird watcher should visit The Hammock often and, when there, be watchful.

The birds are listed by common name, in the following groupings: Permanent Resident, Winter Resident, Summer Resident, and Transient Visitor. As you walk through the Park, see how many different species you can find!
